YEEEEEEEEE
HAWWWWWWW!What a rush to see the political tide turn overnight. What a joy to see, once again, the power of the people -- especially, women people.
Pat yourselves on the back. You done great!
And what fun to hear the after effects of what almost turned into a disaster for the Repugnants.
The Weekly and Sabbath Gas Bags were in full cry with alibis for their lousy predictions.
The Repugnants were falling all over each other assigning blame. We must admit to smidgins of schadenfreude just watching their antics on TV.
And we noted again that when the media commented on the utterances and excuses of the Newt et al., it never used the word "SPIN." That term is always reserved for information that comes from the White House.
We heard a variety of reasons for the many upsets. "It was the media's fault," said the Repugnants, "for concentrating on the Monica mess."
"It was the Repugnant's ads about the Monica mess," claimed the media.
Maybe, but most of all, it was local issues, and ordinary people who caused this delightful mayhem.
We
heard only one Gas Bag refer to the many women who came out and voted Democrat.
This was stated in reference to year 2000 and the Texas Shrub's (a Bush
kid) candidacy for president.
They've already decided that he will win the presidency, because in winning the governorship again, he got lots of votes from African Americans, Hispanics and WOMEN.
Of course, the women's votes, the report declared, were because of his good looks. No surprise as the media continues to marginalize our votes. Still thinking that we vote with our unstable emotional hormones since they consider us incapable of thought.
And sadly, there were losses. We lost the Florida governorship to another anti-choice Shrub.
And we lost Carol Moseley-Braun, the first and only African American woman in the Senate -- and got another anti-choice, very rich, Repugnant in her place.
We can revel in our power at the polls, but we must not relax. The wounded animal is the most dangerous, so we can expect renewed vigor to impeach President Clinton.
"Censure and Move On" petitions have collected thousands of signatures. You'll find their link on our web pages. The more signers the better.
Now that Youthful Indiscretion Hyde has announced that Kennie will be the only witness, we believe it is imperative that all of us contact our Congresspeople to remind them of the election results. To remind them what the majority thinks.
We can be sure they will all get countless calls from the rightwingnuts.
And we will see renewed effort made to put the government in charge of women's bodies.
The political, we have and can handle, but the terrorists will be emboldened by the cacophony of anti-choice voices in Congress, TV and Hate Radio.
You know that another woman's clinic doctor has been shot in the back and that the hunt is on for the killer.
Police
are looking for a former Vermont anti-choice demonstrator named James Charles
Kopp. His picture is being shown on television. We can all
help by notifying the police in our area if we spot him.
It was reported that the wife of Dr. Barnett Slepian notified the police that there were threats against her husband. Apparently, this notification was ignored.
We recall including a report of a similar situation in an earlier 'Gappers article [GenderGappers 1998-007]. The law enforcement officers in two Florida Counties refused to respond to threats to a women's clinic doctor.
Is this situation endemic? Are there other reports out there of similar dereliction of duty by police?
If you know of any, please send the information to us or to Associate A.G. Raymond C. Fisher who has announced the Justice Department's intent to revive a national task force on abortion violence.
If you send reports to us, we will forward them.
We women have a great momentum going now that we are flush with victory and we should resolve to continue it.
There are plenty of problems that need our attention. And, it would be idiotic to let things go and then try to come from behind in year 2000.
