Ya'
know, it just makes good sense that when one is standing in front of the
Senate accusing the President of lying one should take great care to tell
the truth.
All of us familiar with the details of the P.C.J. case were surprised to hear Mr. Manager, senseless, Sensenbrenner firmly tell the Senate that Paula had been refused merit raises and fired from her job because she wouldn't put out for then Gov. Clinton.
It's in the court records and in her own sworn affidavit that she DID get all the merit raises and that SHE voluntarily quit her job to move to California.
The same Mr. Manager also lied through his teeth when he characterized an answer by Chuck Ruff, the President's attorney during the Judicial Committee Hearing.
Chuck was asked if the President told the truth about a certain incident, and he answered, "yes." It's right on the internet for anyone to read.
However Mr. Manager declared that Chuck would not answer the question directly and instead hemmed and hawed all around it.
We listened to most of the Manager's interminable discourses, but couldn't really tell if they were listening to themselves.
One of them insisted that there was proof enough in the record to throw Clinton out of office and then insisted just as strongly that live witnesses were needed to prove the accusations.
The repetition was horrendous to say nothing of hypnotic, but perhaps that was their intent. Their presentations seemed to be composed of equal parts narrative and wishful thinking.
And, of course, all of their quotations to support their contention were from white males. We'd have liked to hear at least one woman quoted. Maybe just a smigin from Susan B. Anthony. For example:
"Men
are afraid that if women vote,
if they hold office, if they sit in Congressional and Parliamentary halls,
they will degrade themselves to the level of men!"
(--Speech 1899)
While insisting that Clinton should not be above the law, the Managers consistently placed him below the law by demanding that he come before the Senate to defend himself.
Is there not the right to be innocent until PROVEN guilty? Is not the burden of proof on the accusers and not on the accused -- even when the accused is the President?
They cleverly introduced the naughty bits by showing Clinton speaking them in answer to questions in his taped testimonies.
But it does not appear that the Managers advanced their cause by very much and are down on their knees begging for Monica in prime time to get the country to notice their performance -- but, it's not about sex.
We hope Chuck and company will entertain us better than Hank and company did this week. Perhaps he will even have two WOMEN LAWYERS talk to the Senators. At least it would be a change from all the white guyz in suits.
The three
days' events reminded us of the joke
about how you can tell a Republican firing squad.
Answer: they form a circle.
Norm Lockman (Wilmington,
Delaware News Journal) explains why they are so self-destructive. They
believe they are trying to hold back the
tide
of things happening that they hate and fear.
Things like affirmative action, women's rights, abortion, homosexuals, federal power, gender and race mixing, and gun controls.
They
blame Clinton and feel victorious that they have impeached him. Now
they are panting at the bit to throw him out.
Frantically telling their tales "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
