The winter solstice serves as a time of celebration for many of the world's religions. We use the "solstice" designation to include all holidays. From GenderGappers to all of you, Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Century. The following are our awards to a few of the players in this final year of Millennium I.
Our
Golden Symbol of Excellence for Promoting
Human Rights award goes to the "Champlain
Valley (VT) Kids on the Block", for their marvelous and innovative
programming message.
This group takes puppets to schools. With them, they teach and empower young children to refuse and prevent sexual abuse. Their message, set to music, is simple and lasting. We invite you all to teach it to your children and spread it through your schools and especially remember to chant it to yourself and your daughters and send it to women's clinics for posting.
"My BODY is NOBODY'S BODY but mine. You run your own BODY and let me run mine!
Our
Bandaged Toe
award goes to the Republican Congressional Majority that after doing very
little all year long, managed to shoot themselves in the foot and endanger
their country by refusing to ratify the Nuclear Testing Ban.
Our
Tiny Weenie
award goes to all the Hate-Radio Talk Show Hosts. You can always tell when
you are listening to one of them since they all share a "gotcha"
mentality that delights in being mean and malicious for hours each day
week in and week out.
Consumed by their hatred for all who do not share their political beliefs, their body parts undergo atrophy, drained of all energy by a burgening ego growing exponentially. They DOGGEDLY believe that the truth is found only by breathing the rarefied air from Rush Limbaugh's six (six is a Navy term meaning rear end.)
Our
No Mo' Pinocchio
award goes to Vice President Al Gore for having enough alpha and beta male
in him to be freed from his wooden prison by accepting advice from women-tors
as well as men-tors.
Also for serenely taking all the loads of manure heaped on him from the Rychus Ones because ONE of those women-tors is an "F_WORDist."
Our
Killing Two Birds With One Christ
award goes to Gee Dubya Bush (who is at present the only candidate for
the Smirk award). First, he uses Christ to kill the "Bird-Of-
Past-Imperfections" with his self-proclaimed Christian purity to erase
all his youthful indiscretions.
And second, he insists that as a born again Christian, he is one of the "Chosen-ones" to go to heaven, thus he has heavenly approval of his candidacy. This should kill off the "Questioning-Bird" which requires demonstrations of a candidate's experience and ability.
Maureen Dowd writes that "... this is the same exclusionary attitude, so offensive to those with different beliefs, that "W" showed in 1993 when he said that 'you must believe in Jesus Christ to enter Heaven'." ("W" has since conceded that he does not decide who goes to Heaven -- Whew, what a relief that is!)
Our
Dream Weaver's
award this year goes to the media for continually producing stories that
have little relation to fact and great relation to fantasy.
They hear evil, speak evil and see evil over and over and over.
News has become a production -- showtime! Invention and creation of news has replaced the practice of checking and reporting facts without editorial comment.
Saving
the best for last, we give our highest award, the coveted Silver
and Gold Chakram With Crossed Swords to
our loyal band of subscribers -- those SELF-DEFINED WOMEN all over the
world who courageously face the daily battle of changing the world one
atom at a time.
This award is patterned after the drawing that Xena (our favorite self-defined woman) made to serve as an identifying icon that would continue throughout the millenia and beyond -- a recognition signal for kindred souls. The swords are crossed like this + (not like this x) and appear below the "o" shape of the Chakrum. It is similar to the universal symbol for female.
We thank you and honor you for your loyalty to GenderGappers and for your many contributions, suggestions and corrections.
We are so very grateful for the work of Liz, our Webitor, who has maintained a really great site in the liz library to illustrate and archive GenderGappers.
