IL BACIO

Since the convention, women are now supporting Al Gore by 16-20% over Bush, depending on the poll you look at. Several sources cite Gore's speech as being a defining reason why they have switched, but there are those in the media that just cannot get past THE KISS as the defining reason for Al getting his mojo back.

"Kiss me, come and kiss me, let me hold you in sweet love's embrace. Let me hold you and enfold you,
let me press your lips to mine..."
-- from Il Bacio (The Kiss) by Areiti, Luigi (1822-1903)

Their claim is that the kiss Al gave Tipper, before his speech, was orchestrated. That it was scripted to influence women favorably toward him. This is based on the traditional cultural insult that women are only emotional beings and NOT thinking beings as men are.

Women, they say, make their determination of who to vote for on the sole basis of the state of their glands. Well, gland selection MAY have accounted for why some women were planning to vote for Bush before they heard Gore's speech. It may also be because they had not heard about the Bush record in Texas.

Or, it may be that women are just beginning to focus on Bush's marvelous mutilations of the English language. We've heard that expectations for Bush doing well in the debates has been placed so low that if he only shows up he will be called the winner.

You so-called reporters of news declare that the reason you go on and on about a kiss is to "liven things up," Well, moan and groan all you want about how dull, extraneous and boring the issues are, you shallow minded purveyors of media-mania prose. Your problem is that you think it's always about reproductive rights. You accuse women of being shallow. You say we are one-issue dweebs. Baloney!

We have lots of issues and many reasons besides choice for NOT wanting the "Shrubya" in the Oval Office. http://www.georgewbushspeaks.com

One issue that is high on our list is gun control and all that it entails. We well remember the thrilling speech of the NRA official who said that if Bush were president, the NRA would work out of the Oval Office.

Many women's organizations have studied how women would fare under the PRIVITIZATION of Social Security that Bush espouses. Since women mostly earn so much less, work in more menial jobs and may leave a job for family reasons many would suffer under this plan.

Most certainly, a president should think and speak in a lucid manner. These "bushisms" are tiresome and embarrassing. He got so turned on contemplating trillions of dollars that he lost it entirely during one speech just last week and couldn't tell his billions from his trillions.

Let's not forget the environment either. We women are very concerned about the effects of pollution. We understand that because of the way the polls are going you folk in the media are trying everything you can to help the Shrubya and his full-figured special interests. But listen, there are also HIS records to hash and rehash. Here's a start:

Under the leadership of Bush, the state of Texas is ranked 50th in spending for teachers' salaries; 49th in spending on the environment; 48th in per-capita funding for public health; 47th in delivery of social services; 42nd in child-support collections; 41st in per-capita spending on public education; fifth in percentage of population living in poverty; FIRST IN AIR AND WATER POLLUTION; first in percentage of poor working parents without insurance; first in percentage of children without health insurance and first in executions an average of one every two weeks for Bush's five years in office.

Following the convention, several members of the media have been trying desperately to make something out of Gore's kiss with Tipper, and a picture of him she took showing his naked manly chest. Exhibiting disgust, one reporter said it was unseemly and an embarrassment for the nation.

Well they really WERE terrible things to do to the American public. Men should never show they are in love with their wives. It might start a precedent, and most of us have never seen a male bared breast before? For Pete's Sake, media mavens, give us a break and GET A LIFE!
