WAG THE PUPPY

Now that Junior is sabering his rattle at Sadam, a few courageous talking heads are beginning to comment in terms heretofore avoided. Is the un-prez trying to capture the media attention away from Clinton or away from his own proposals that are beginning to unravel? Whatever the reason, it makes his much-vaunted charm offensive simply ludicrous and the media prostitution more obvious.

At his first press conference Thursday, reporters lobbed only softball questions, smiling and acting like little puppies when he called them by a nickname. He refused to comment on the Clinton pardon stories saying that was the province of the press and they were doing fine. Reporters happily tolerated his frequent non-answers and evasive answers. The only thing approaching criticism that we heard was one reporter who said, “Bush is no Clinton,” then went on to explain how exact and detailed Clinton’s responses were to questions from the press.

        • Dubya’s huge tax cut proposal is taking a licking. His own appointed Secretary of the Treasury, Paul O’Neil does not support it. Additional salt in the wound is provided by Congressman Bernard Sanders [I-VT] who has come up with an idea so simple and so fair that it highlights the Dubyacan’s tax bill as a political payoff to the ultra rich. Bernie’s plan is to just give every woman, man and child $300.00/year while the surplus lasts. Labor, Democrats and many others are jumping onto the Saunder’s Solution.
        • Why? Simply said, it treats everyone equal. Good grief! What a concept! Instead of the ultra rich getting a huge wad back and the ultra poor getting nothing, everyone benefits equally from the surplus. In addition it will boost the economy as we all have plenty of things we’d like to buy.

        • Then there is his faith-based pipe dream. The Church of Scientology is planning to ask Bush for money to fund its controversial drug rehabilitation and literacy programs. Bush said in an interview last year: "I have a problem with the teachings of Scientology being viewed on the same par as Judaism or Christianity."

        • The Navy does not smell so sweet these days what with the terrible accident of one of their subs and a Japanese fishing/teaching boat. “Cover-up” is the word spoken most often as the practice of entertaining fat cats who may make campaign contributions is coming to light. The bolder reporters are likening it to “a sort of submarine Lincoln Bedroom.”
        • We understand that these “guests” MUST be Republican because we’ve been told so often that the military hate Clinton so the navy wouldn’t pimp for him. Whatever their purpose aboard that sub, it’s apparent that the Navy tried to hide the fact that civilians were aboard, and then when it came out, attempted to hide their identity.

        • Dubya’s education bill will be stripped of the voucher provisions and to pass it he will have to make so many compromises that it will be nearly identical to the Democrats plan introduced in the last Congress.

        • It has come to light that all the talk about the trashing of the White House and stealing from Air Force One was a fabrication - something organized by GOPsters to black-mark both of the Clintons. Most of the media just ignored this revelation, delighted to concentrate on the Mark Rich pardon and its ramifications. “If Clinton rode off into the sunset someone would blame him for the darkness.” Sally on “Talkback Live” who remembers what he did for women and minorities.

Dubya has been spending his weekends primping and practicing elocution either at Camp David or Texas while the acting president, “The Dick” Cheney has captained the ship of state. It’s a hard job but someone has to keep track of the problem children right in his own Party, the John and the Thomas, for example. One trying to wreck Dubya’s plans to raise money with campaign finance reform and the other trying to crow like a political Supreme but coming off more like a clucking partisan.

There is an unofficial deathwatch going on now in Washington as Senator Strom Thurmond’s [R-SC] health is failing. The Governor of South Carolina would surely appoint a Democrat which would give them control of the Senate. You can just bet who is praying for what.

Remember how we heard how children were adversely affected by the naughty actions of President Clinton? Like kids never heard of sex until the Republican Majority in Congress and the media spread it all over the world? We are hearing nothing about the harm caused by the youthful indiscretions of Dubya from the Congress or the media. School children openly mock Dubya’s speech, which they attribute to his being a coke head, and they collect Bushisms. If the president can do drugs and be stupid why can’t we, they ask? Why indeed? And he’s being stupid in the Oval Office too - Oh My!

The media told us often that Clinton “had lost his moral compass,” so it might be said that Dubya is fast “losing his moral authority.”

        • Most of the world is reacting negatively to his Iraqi “gambol with bombs.”

        • He can’t blame the sub incident or the FBI spy on the former president.

        • The White House has been trying but has still been unable to erase the fact that he was never elected president. Maybe the puppy is getting wagged for all the above.  Woof!
