INVESTIGATE TEXASGATE!

It will be good to see the Democrats mess around with the skeletons in a few Republican's closets for a change. All of us who lived through the last 8 years of continuous investigation of the Clintons know that rich areas for snooping into the present administration abound.

IS OUR CHILDREN LEARNINGAlready there are plans forming to go after the oil and gas moguls and see what is really causing the high energy prices. http://www.truthout.com/

How about another Savings and Loan investigation? It's time everyone knew about Silverado and what the Bush brothers did to the investors in that bank. http://www.auschron.com/

While we're at it how about investigating what "W" was doing during the many months he was AWOL from the National Guard service that he entered to escape the draft. And there is plenty more.

"He was a poor student who somehow got into the finest schools. He was a National Guardsman who somehow missed a year of service. He was a failed businessman who somehow was made rich. He was a minority investor who somehow was made managing partner of the Texas Rangers. He was a defeated politician who somehow was made governor. You can hardly blame him for expecting to inherit the White House."

And wouldn't it be just great if we could understand, and better still, that males understand, why it is that many men's fantasy is to become like Tony Soprano? That's right. Everything is polled now and it seems Tony is high on the male hero list.

Why? Well if you have to ask, here are 3 reasons: (1) absolute and complete authority over everyone (especially women) at home and at work, (2) if someone gets in your way, eliminate her or him; and (3) beautiful nearly nude women around all the time always available for sex.

Sure all the talking heads that review this HBO program give it high marks. Most even rave about it and dis the networks for having such poor quality programs in comparison with The Sopranos. True to life drama, they call it. Is this wishful thinking or just the kind of cultural crap that is so readily accepted, just as many women so readily accept being told how to think, act and dress?

Actually it's all the same thing. It's giving the rich and powerful what they want just as it always has been. The only difference is that now some women are no longer cooperating in their own put down.

But women and the non-powerful did get a break last week. The mighty right-wing juggernaut, set to roll over our environment, our human rights and our future, ground to a screeching halt when a courageous Vermont Senator told "W" to stuff it.

A new bumper sticker is dueling with "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS" that came into D. C. with the Cheney/Bush crowd. It reads "DON'T MESS WITH VERMONT!"

Now, at the very least our interests will be honored and served by a Senate majority that is not in lock step with the radical right. Especially important here is the Senate's "advise and consent" role in presidential nominations to the judiciary especially the Supreme Court appointments.

Vermonters polled 67% approval of Senator Jefford's action. The only unhappy folk here are the far right conservative wingnuts who didn't vote for him. Control of the Senate by the Liberals is a big step, but we must send them a House majority next year.

          "A Principled and Courageous Leader

"Senator Jim Jeffords, you make us proud to have you as a friend. You have taken a principled and courageous stand. The leadership of your party has deserted you on core American values. You, however, refused to desert your conscience or the people of your state. You have always fought hard to protect a woman's right to choose, a fundamental American right and value. NARAL's growing membership, hundreds of thousands strong, stands ready to support you. On behalf of pro-choice Americans, we thank you for your years of support and for your unfailing commitment to the women of America."
-- from a half page notice in Vermont newspapers.

We can praise Senator Jeffords but it is up to us to inspire others to read, understand the issue and vote. We cannot just sit back with a happy face because the Conservatives are powerfully pissed off at Senator Jeffords. They will ALL vote.
