EMOTIONS v. SENSIBILITIES

No one seems to attract the love of so many and the envy/hate of so many as does former President, Bill Clinton. The talking heads are catatonic over his book deal that is reported to be over $10 mil. So along with everything else, we are served up repeats of the repugnant complaints from yesteryears.

Their strangest grievance just has to be their anger and disdain at the “Clinton charm.” The implication is that charm is somehow just wrong. Here’s a guy that is not even running for any office and they are so scared of him that they seem compelled to disparage everything about him.

What makes this hilarious are the constant news clips showing Dubya getting out for some touchy-feely with the little people. In voice-overs, the White House gurus are explaining him to us and telling us how charming he is. How because of his charm, he has the “common touch” and can use words that women understand.

They carefully avoid comparing abilities, even though some in the White House privately wish Dubya were more like Clinton! Bet they are biting their collective tongues right now. How they raged at Clinton for flip-flopping on a campaign promise and now their sainted Dubya does it on stem cell research. Oh, my! “Read my lips. Life begins at conception (unless I decide otherwise.)” Check out W.H. spin on this one, it’s bound to be hilarious.

Which one of these guys really has the claim to MORALITY? They both have lied and flip-flopped. There is still no sign that Dubya has fulfilled another campaign promise, which is that he would bring honor and dignity to the White House.

Remember Florida and how the Republican Supremes pronounced Dubya the winner? There was plenty wrong with that “victory” and nearly everyday there is a new insult to our electoral system revealed in the “Florida Fiasco.”

“An initial review of computer files in the office of Secretary of State Katherine Harris, who also served as co-chair of George W. Bush's Florida campaign, revealed documents endorsing Bush for president.” [Media Examine Harris' Computers By David Royse Associated Press Writer Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001; 1:54 p.m. EDT]

Whether at home or abroad, we are getting screwed “Cheney-big time” by this so-called “compassionate” administration. Now in the heat of August, we are faced with still another offensive assault. Dubya is being sent around the country to perpetrate a humongous snow job on second class Americans -- WOMEN.

Watch for all the photo-ops coming to a TV near you. Many of these are planned for Dubya to launch a tête-à-tête with women voters. Here’s a chance to roll up his sleeves, open his shirt and come a-courtin’.

It seems that Dubya is not doing well in the polls with women and the solution is to snuggle up and seduce us. (This from Dubya who has said many times that he ignores polls?) As Caesar was supposed to have observed, “separate a woman’s emotions from her sensibilities and you’ve got her in the sack.” Of course pure-as-the-driven-snow, Dubya, isn’t out to defile us sexually but it surely is his intention to defile us.

Remember what he has done in his first few months in office. If you think the tax refund was great just think of the fact that many women won’t get anything and most women will get much less than the $300 that was promised. Already, his administration is borrowing money from us to pay for ALL the refunds. And don’t miss the following great column by Molly Ivins for more details: “Ladies, there’s a GOP gentleman caller at the door.”

We sadly note the passing of a great human being, Maureen Reagan. She was an anachronism among Republican women. She stood up firmly and often for women’s reproductive freedom and clearly saw how important it is that more women get into politics.

One of her observations was that it’s difficult to get women to contribute to political parties because they were STILL on their knees thanking “the man” for their paycheck. Maureen gives us this prime example of how a woman’s emotions are separated from her sensibilities. We can all learn from her insight. She will be missed.
