VARMINTS AND RARE BIRDS
 Whenever
you have a flock of rare birds the first step is to protect them. You build
a sturdy enclosure, making sure it is strong enough to keep out the elements.
Then you have to keep the varmints from digging or clawing their way in
to get at them. If they do get in it's bloody hard to get them
out.
You may build a fence and hire guards. Keeping your birds safe demands eternal vigilance since a moment's carelessness can result in a breach by ever-waiting predators such as foxes, weasels and skunks. The rare birds we are writing about have been in existence for well over two centuries. Wars were fought to defend them from the varmints without, but now the varmints have gotten in. They passed through the defenses by cloaking their true intentions with words like "compassionate" and "bringing honor and integrity to the White House." They now wrap themselves in the American flag for camouflage. The only way to get rid of them is with the ballot box. As you have guessed already, the rare birds we write about are our Constitution and the 27 Amendments. Whether the assault on them is from foxes, weasels, skunks, or even coyote, something must be done about it, for once these rare birds are destroyed we will have no power to get them back. Attorney General Ashcroft made several attacks on our Constitution and was called before the Senate Judicial Committee. His image was carried into thousands of American homes where Americans saw his arrogance and intolerance first hand. He was warned that Congress would not allow him to savage the First Amendment. Following that, the wily Ashcroft appeared before the news cameras making picayune announcements a few times, and then suddenly a deputy took over these announcements. The Cheney/Bush polltakers had discovered that Ashcroft was not well-liked by the electorate. Those citizens who either remember WW2 or have seen films about it found much to associate with Ashcroft. His attitude and demeanor instantly brings to mind the stomping sound of jackboots and black uniforms of the Gestapo. So they decided to keep him out of sight. When it was announced that the Justice Department would investigate Enrongate, it was NOT Ashcroft who made the announcement before the cameras. Vile things were brewing in secrete behind the closed doors of the most secrete administration in modern times. White House political boss, Karl Rove, was determined to keep the wily Ashcroft away from the news cameras until his image could be repaired. He had shown himself to be a political liability and they need to keep him under wraps except for occasions where the war and the American flag can hide his true character from public view. So it was a spokesperson in the Justice Department who announced that since Ashcroft had taken a campaign contribution from Enron, he would recuse himself and a deputy would conduct the investigation. Following weeks of silence, Ashcroft did appear before the cameras briefly to announce that charges had been brought against John Walker, the American Talibanite. The next day, he appeared before the cameras again flanked by several deputies to announce charges against Richard Reed, the guy with the explosives in his shoes. Then on the third day he introduced by picture and video his current evil-doers-of-evil list with instructions for everyone in the world to watch out for these men. It remains to be seen if focusing on these "evil-doers-of-evil" can rehabilitated him enough to fool the American electorate into ignoring his repeated assaults on the Constitution. Certainly he counts on the attention these national trials will draw from his current Constitutional feeding frenzy. Many Americans are angry, and willing to support a military action because of the events of 9/11 where thousands were killed. It was an attack against this country. No less an attack against this country is the scandal of Enrongate where many more thousands were deprived of their jobs and their pensions. This attack came from the Cheney/Bush-protected CORPORATE AMERICA. Enrongate is a peek behind the secrecy curtain installed by this administration. It is a clarion call of what is yet to come. Wake up, American and use the might of the ballot to drive the varmints out of power and out of office. Let the sun shine into the highest office in our land once again. 2002-003
