HYPOCRISY FOR GOD

Does anyone remember that there was a collective shudder when Dubya announced that he was appointing Ashcroft Attorney General? Then there were the confirmation hearings where Ashcroft promised, "I will obey the rule of law," even though he personally objected to ALL abortion.

Vacancies in the Supreme Court are due to occur anytime now as some members want to retire. They await only a Republican majority in the Senate so they can slam dunk the confirmation of a justice or two who will overturn Roe v. Wade.

That is what the Bush Administration has vowed to do and it has been aiding and abetting the many moves in that direction by Right to Lifers in different states. For example, Ashcroft^'s DOJ recently filed a brief to urge an Ohio court to continue a ban on late term abortion.

Messing in state issues has never been the purview of DOJ before this. Normally it becomes involved in cases heard on the federal level, or ones that directly affect government institutions.

The media seldom reports much of what is going on but it is evident that there is a continuing whittling away of legal safeguards of women's reproductive rights. This administration has given it carte blanche with legal tricks winked at or supported by Ashcroft's DOJ.

The disdain for law rot is also apparent at the top. In speeches, Bush has referred to two men that were accused of a crime, as murderers. This before a jury has made any decision. Is the word "alleged" so difficult to pronounce? Certainly not. Bush did it deliberately, flaunting the Constitution.

Eager and enervated Right to Lifers are tasting blood as they continually attack the work of women's clinics and Planned Parenthood on both the local and state level. They claim they are compelled to stop the killing. This is based on their religious beliefs that all human life is sacred and they are serving god.

Talk about a double standard! These people profile and harass women while condoning the most atrocious slaughter of whole families and call that unavoidable and collateral damage.

Indeed, there are no more fervent supporters of Bush and his wars than the Right to Lifers. What matter a few Muslim families are destroyed. The important thing is that we take out those who attacked New York and DC buildings on 9/11. It seems they are most selective about who has a right to life. http://www.nytimes.com/2002/08/16/opinion/16KRIS.html

Right to Lifers have the same attitude toward the environment. They support the Bushies who have relaxed or done away with environmental controls in many areas. So what if some kids die because of the high content of lead in the water, Right to Lifers have only one goal and that is to control women.

While withholding funds for the United Nations aid to third world women and maligning the vital work of Planned Parenthood here at home, the Right to Lifers wink at the Bushie killing fields. Why don't their religious beliefs make them compelled to stop all of these killings?

They refuse to become politically involved in condemning collateral damage killing saying, "Our planes did not INTEND to hit the wrong target."

Sounds familiar -- many women will say they "did not INTEND to become pregnant."

If INTENT is a valid excuse in the former instance then it is a valid excuse for the latter.
