History
tells us that Stonewall Jackson, when he had to dismiss an incompetent
from his staff, said, "Here is a man so lacking in leadership that
he can accomplish nothing unless he is led by the hand like a child."
Sounds a lot like the present "leader of the free world." Every time our last elected president, Bill Clinton, did anything, the media rushed to inform us that he was only concerned with his legacy, not us. In contrast, how quiet it is about the legacy Dubya is building, most of it against us. When former President Clinton made a move on terrorists, the media rushed in to inform us that he was "wagging the dog" -- a euphemism meaning that he was just doing it to take attention away from something else. What we have now is a catastrophe waiting for a coin toss to happen. The men who are leading the child by the hand are intent on war at any cost and they are using it to maintain themselves in office. The Bushie legacy is both frightening and astounding. It appears to be predicated on three things. Dump everything Clinton did for America, blame anything that goes wrong on Clinton and to hell with the rest of the world. Right out of the box, they hurt the environment,
rolling back the Clinton initiatives. This and many more examples of the
harm inflicted can be found all over the Internet. http://www.truthout.org/docs_02/08.31D.krug.trust.htm
But without a doubt, the most egregious thing they did was to ignore the terrorist warning brief that Clinton's Security people gave to National Security Advisor, Condi Rice. They ignored it and put all of their National Security attention on a failed "Star Wars" program. The material amassed by Clinton's Security Advisor was so important that most rational people believe it could have prevented the tragedy of 9/11. But only if the recommendations had been followed up and attention was focused on Al-Qaida terrorists by the FBI, CIA and other security agencies. However, the child was led by his father's hawks to continue the emphasis on missiles and bombs coming in from a foreign nation. They gave no credence to the possibility that America's enemies might come into the country with their terrorist intents. When that happened, the hunt was on for Osama as the Rumsfeld cowboys saddled up and headed for Afghanistan. As expected, Americans rallied 'round the flag. The "evil doers" were driven out or imprisoned but Osama was not found. So the hawks turned to the next country on their list Iraq, and the word went forth from the White House of a change of American policy: PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE. The golden rule was obliterated. "Do unto others as you want done unto you" became "Do unto others before they do it unto you." Most every Head of State, even those that
used to be our friends, BD [before Dubya], warned him against a planned
presumptive strike against Iraq. Many of the wise people of his father's
administration added their voices against the plan. Nearly all of the Democrats
were silent. Faux News thought it was a great idea, as did Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and the rest of all the president's men. They ignore the law of unintended consequences such as increased hatred of Arabs and destabilization of the area that would follow invasion of an Arab State. Except for the Secretary of State, Colin Powell. Whatever is the child to do? He says he hasn't made up his mind. He's still reading a book telling how other important leaders like him waged war. Carl Rove whispers in his ear to do it before the November elections because if there is a war the Republicans won't lose control of Congress. The child slithers, dithers and yawns as he laces up his running shoes, leaving the making up of his mind to the adults, the hawks and the media -- and his country in limbo. 2002-037
