Whatever
else Bush's obsession with Iraq is, there is nothing magnificent about
it. More likely than anything else, it has its roots in revenge.
Certainly the obsession is constantly fueled by oil mogul "The Dick"
Cheney.
There may also be elements of political expediency too as shown by the constant wagging of the vote that Bush engages in. Count his constant campaigning and count the money gained for the Republican candidates. Then, if you have the stomach for it, count the costs to every taxpayer. There's a bunch of GOP presidential history with Iraq that is not all praiseworthy. Former President Reagan cozied up to Saddam to use him as an ally against Iran. That GOPper's dance with the devil is the reason Saddam has the ability to use germ warfare. "After Rumsfeld's visit to Baghdad in 1983, U.S. intelligence began supplying the Iraqi dictator with satellite photos showing Iranian deployments. Official documents suggest that America may also have secretly arranged for tanks and other military hardware to be shipped to Iraq in a swap deal -- American tanks to Egypt, Egyptian tanks to Iraq. Over the protest of some Pentagon skeptics, the Reagan administration began allowing the Iraqis to buy a wide variety of 'dual use' equipment and materials from American suppliers. According to confidential Commerce Department export-control documents obtained by NEWSWEEK, the shopping list included a computerized database for Saddam's Interior Ministry (presumably to help keep track of political opponents); helicopters to transport Iraqi officials; television cameras for 'video surveillance applications'; chemical-analysis equipment for the Iraq Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC), and, most unsettling, numerous shipments of 'bacteria/fungi/protozoa' to the IAEC. According to former officials, the bacteria cultures could be used to make biological weapons, including anthrax." http://www.truthout.org/docs_02/10.01A.nswk.saddam.htmIf things are really as bad as we are constantly told by the Bushies, then why isn't Bush staying at his post and doing his job? Nearly every day he is out politicking and raising money for Republican candidates at the expense of all Americans. The whole world allied with us after 9/11 but the Bushies frittered it all away just to get even with Saddam and take over the oil fields. No doubt at all now who is running the show at the Offal Office. One commentator called Cheney, the "Super Hawk" with Rummy coming in a close second. With Cheney obviously in charge, Bush is free to politick 24/7, and this should scare the hell out of every one of us. Right now the only reason we haven't already been dragged into war or worse is because Democrats have that one-person majority in the Senate -- thank you, Senator Jim Jeffords. Because of this one-person majority, the Bushies mad rush to war was slowed and conditions were attached to his authority to make war. The nation is now watching what he does. We MUST do more than hope that Bush's continuous ignoring of the country's problems may be turning voters against him. Latest polls show that 66% of probable voters do not want war. We must get that translated into Democrat votes in November. The GOPpers are ALL going to vote. Right now they are sending out mailers to all registered voters showing their state candidates. The mailer features a picture of wrapped-in-the-flag-Bush equating voting Republican with patriotism. The constant cacophony of war and dire threats of terrorist acts to come spewing from the "bully pulpit," has all but drowned out reports of the continuing GOPper's juggernaut. One report that was not drowned out was the congressional investigation of 9/11 that pointed unflinchingly at the blunders of the Bush administration. Following these disclosures, Cheney stopped the investigation. Now we have news of nukes in North Korea more evidence of the Bushie's incompetence in foreign affairs. The Bushies must not be allowed to win a majority in Congress that will give them carte blanche to fill the courts with right wing-nut judges who do NOT separate church from state. If the GOPpers win a majority in November elections, they will bring forth their full DOMESTIC agenda that is exceedingly anti-women's civil and reproductive rights. It is imperative that all of us remind all our friends and relatives of that agenda, as well as urge them to register and vote. I'RAQ THE VOTE! We must not let the G-O-P on us. 2002-043
