PIZZA RULZ

There are those who think the Bushies stole the White House because of the actions of the Supreme Court. However, it is now looking as if it was a bloodless coup rather than a steal. Planning for this coup began 10 years ago when Bill Clinton deprived Daddy Bush of a second term and it still continues.

Looking over the events of that presidential campaign, one sees the uncritical cooperation of the so-called free press with the Bush campaign early on. Most noticeable was the way the media ignored or touched lightly on the past of George W. Bush, even when events came to life that would relate to his fitness for public office.

Certainly there were plenty of skeletons in the Bush closet to pick over in addition to the daily gaffes in his speeches. Amazingly, these errors were not gleefully paraded on TV as is the usual practice of the media. Instead, they ignored the skeletons and cleaned up his fractured verbiage before presenting it to the electorate.

F.A.I.R.The pratfalls or missteps that occurred on camera were buried after one news cycle. Remember the infamous "big time" comment by Cheney following Bush's dirty words about a reporter? Even then, the media happily shelved it.

There can be no doubt that Gore won Florida and the election. Not even counting the "butterfly ballot" imbroglio, many voters were de-franchised by color or location. The changes made to electronic voting in '02 only served to exacerbate the situation since brother Bush programmed the machines and will do so in '04.

Even now after two years the media, that has always critically evaluated sitting presidents in the past, is failing to do so with Bush. Only a few columnists have come forth to question why. This is way strange.

Traditionally, after a brief honeymoon period, the press sees itself as a watchdog for the public and sniffs around every move of an administration looking for scandal. They especially dote on colorful or embarrassing bits they can continuously repeat on TV.

Now, most of the media have become a cheering squad, barely able to keep their love and admiration for the Bushies in check. A notable and refreshing exception is 82-year-old journalist, Helen Thomas. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0109-06.htm

The coup that took the White House also spawned a whole raft of barracuda talking heads that have studied the art of bully boondoggling. They go on TV opposite a Liberal and loudly and consistently shout over the Liberal and hog most of the time allotted for what laughingly is called a "debate."

There is no way a listener can gain information or knowledge of issues and their importance from these so-called "issue debates." Discourse has been reduced to a Roman Circus where shouting is the weapon of choice and common courtesy is ground in the dirt of the forum.

Now we are told that the Dems are looking for a Liberal facsimile for Rush Limbaugh and the other vile tongued Conservative denizens of Taux radio and TV. PLEASE! They must be kidding! It took years for Limbaugh and the others to develop their style and gain their huge audiences.

Besides, Liberals mostly don't enjoy potty mouth talk shows that spew the same venom day after day. It's mostly Conservatives that have time to listen and they surely won't listen to Liberal talk except for those who attempt to disrupt the discussions.

We haven't a prayer of beating them at their own game, but we can make their game a joke for the country to laugh at. It should start right now with a weekly show -- 'ya might call it THE PIZZA RULZ. That title would humorously expose what "ethics" mean to Republicans.

Another skit might parody the way Faux News presents "fair and balanced" with one Conservative person representing Conservative agendas and another Conservative person pretending to be a Liberal.

Limbaugh, the self-proclaimed "world famous talk-show host" would provide tons of grist for the laughter mill -- the raw material is limitless simply because the Conservative media presents us with it constantly.

With the kind of writing talent and actors the Dems have available, a skit like that would be a howl. The trick is not to knock Republicans or criticize them but just set up situational skits that will give the voters insight. Sort of like the way Saturday Night Live operates.

A show like this will be watched because it will be entertaining. It would knock the Bushies for a loop. Another thing is jazz up the commercials and run political ads that are funny and penetrating. Leave the hosting of talk shows to those who know their way around the sewers.
