THE BRAINWASHING OF AMERICA

Listen to the media and take note of the polls. It's all over for the dinosaur Democrats. They will soon join the other endangered species in the bone yard of barely interesting relics.

Never have Republican lips held such wide grins. They are barely able to take any more joy in the prospect of Iraqi oil and reconstruction because their political cups runneth over.

Oh, joy! Oh, rapture! Only 25% of Democrats are now refusing to bow before the Bush juggernaut. The rest are lapdogs, vying eagerly for the table scraps thrown to them by the benevolent Bush.

Of course it's all over. Even since the media, bought and controlled by a few corporate moguls turned belly up, the handwriting was on the wall. All America got for news 24/7 was pro-Bush propaganda. The spirit of McCarthyism, never completely vanquished by the Republican Party, reared its ugly head to be fondled by the faithful.

Historians are likening it to the way Germany was transformed through similar brain washing. Even the embedded media in Iraq became cheerleaders instead of reporting news. The signs are unmistakable. War wins elections and Iraq is just the beginning. Bush has raised the bloodlust in Americans to such great heights that most now look forward to bombing more countries, smashing statues and trashing ancient artifacts.

The few remaining Democrats find themselves in the plight of Tantalus who was punished with hunger and thirst. He was immersed up to his neck in water that drained away when he tried to drink. If he reached for luscious fruit in the trees above him, the wind blew it out of his reach.

Thus it is with the Democrats who are trying to compete in the upcoming elections to remove Bush and a Republican majority Congress. Once this Iraqi war has ended, they will have little time to campaign before being shut up again.

Should people start to listen to them, bidda bah, bidda boom! Bush fires off a threat to invade another country with a brutal dictator. There are enough of these countries to last through the 2004 election cycle and beyond.

Bush and his controlled media will inform a brain-dead electorate that Democrats in Congress are traitors if they vote against his agenda. He will claim that all of his bills are to fight the war against terrorism and the media will bugle over and over that the Democrats are supporting terrorists. http://sfbayguardian.com/37/29/x_this_modern_world.html

Candidate Senator Kerry made a strong statement and was clobbered by the right-wing talk shows and the media. Little has been heard from him since. However, there is another Democratic voice that has from the git-go refused to be intimidated by Bush, the media or rychus talk shows. He is the former Vermont Governor, Howard Dean.

The Republicans mostly ignore him or belittle him because they don't want the whole country to get tuned in on what he is saying. They are scared of this man's strength and courage of convictions. Sadly, so are many Democrats.

So, who and what is Howard Dean? A few of his campaign quotes may give the best answers. He is adamant in his opposition to the war and the isolationist and destructive foreign policy of the present administration. Dean constantly challenges the Democrats in Congress for their support of the Bush education, health and tax bills.

"I don't think we can beat this president by adopting his policies. What we need to do is set up a Democratic agenda unambiguous, clear, and proud to be Democrats. If you put the Democratic agenda next to the Republican agenda, the Democratic agenda wins every time."

"We lost two senators and we almost lost a third one in this past election because their platform was 'I voted with the president 85% of the time.' "

"What I want to know is what in the world so many Democrats are doing supporting the President's unilateral intervention in Iraq?"

"More than anything else, I want Americans to be able to walk down the streets of other foreign capitals and be respected and to be proud to be Americans again."

"Our long-term vision can't be we're just going to bomb the hell out of every country we don't like. There has got to be a better long-term vision than that."

"I want a party that is proud to be Democrats. We have to stop hiding; we have to stop being afraid of the president's poll ratings; we have to stop being afraid of the right-wing fundamentalists preachers and say, 'We want our country back.' "

It would be helpful if the polled 75% had the guts to withdraw their heads from Bush's anus and act like Democrats. We desperately need leadership that fights for the people who cannot endure another four years of Bush assault on the Constitution and economy.
