| Before the year
is out everyone will be promised their most sought after dream. One doesn't
even have to stand in line as the PROMISES OF largess comes wafting out
to us from behind the curtain. From
Uncle Sammy's lips to everyone's ears.
Early on we were told the children would benefit. None of them would be left behind as schools would become models of education filled with happy youngsters. More recently, older Americans are told they will be getting free medical drugs along with a cheaper and better government health insurance. They can even choose to go to the private insurance companies on the government dollar. Hispanics were next. Held out to them was the promise of open doors and jobs for their families left behind in Mexico; forgiveness of their transgressions of illegal entry into Uncle Sammy land; and citizenship with voting rights. Hard on the heels of Hispanics dancing in the streets for joy, came promises of going to the Moon and even to Mars. All the space junkies were flipping out for sheer joy and polishing up their NASA memorabilia. What will be promised next? What is in store to take our minds off the war, the pollution, the lies? What smoke screen, what pie in the sky goodies, what "chicken in every pot" titillating promises are still to come? Everyone's special passion is sure to come up. How about great jobs, like where you are the boss? Everyone a chief and no little Indians. The worker bees could be cheap labor aliens. Those aficionados of virtual reality are sure to be promised free, unlimited virtual foods of all sorts and flavors. What a boon this will be for the overweight -- satiety without calories or that unpleasant full feeling. How about virtual reality sex? That's sure to get as many votes as food. Uncle Sammy's promises for the masses will follow thick and fast as voters waver. Stay tuned for all the wonderful things
yet to come from Uncle Sammy -- the wizard behind the curtain. Oops! The
curtain fell down. It isn^Òt Uncle Sammy back there, it's Bush with
his buds, Rove and Cheney all laughing their asses off as they push our
buttons and ring our bells. * Children were left behind as the program was under funded and failed. * A closer look at the elder's prescription drug bill shows the true benefits go to drug and insurance companies. * Hispanic joy turns to gloom as they realize that they are now government sponsored cheap labor to be exploited by greedy American employers. * But we can forget all that as our eyes cloud over with sugar plum visions of taking over the Moon and Mars. Surely the new space programs will be the favorites of the majority who are now polling in favor of the preemptive war against Iraq. Think about it. Never ending galactic war forever, once all countries on Earth have been invaded. What bloody good fun!
