| Stay the course? Are we nuts?
All this talk about "we are at war and stay the course" is used
to cover a multitude of Bush sins and is dangerous like most of his agenda
and endeavors.
Before the Supremes dumped Bush on us, this country's leadership was aware of the dangers of terrorism and had put the Rudman report before Congress for immediate action. http://www.gendergappers.org/2004-008.htm; http://www.gendergappers.org/2004-011.htm This report detailed possible attacks on us and urged the formation of what, belatedly and only under the pressure of 9/11, became the Department of Homeland Security.
The terrorists sensed the soft spot in the Bushie's attention and struck by sending planes crashing into our buildings. Bush's negligence and stupidity had deadened our awareness of terrorism leaving us open and vulnerable. Since the terrorist's base was Afghanistan, our troops invaded that country. That set well with many Americans who wanted revenge. Bush was forced to pay attention to terrorism after 9/11. He concentrated on the Patriot Act that limited our Constitutional rights. Then he claimed that God told him to invade Iraq, a country that had not been part of the 9/11 attack. And now, he wants us to "stay the course," that is follow him anywhere. Here are just a few of the signposts and landmarks on that course. -- thousands of innocent, civilian Iraqi killed or injured -- invasion initiated diseases caused by open sewers/ broken water mains -- chaos and violence 24/7 for Iraqi people -- thousands of coalition troops killed or injured -- troops forced to stay on in Iraq instead of taking promised rotation out -- priceless artifacts destroyed or stolen -- no WMD found, ostensibly the reason for preemptive war on Iraq -- announcement aboard the Lincoln of "Mission Accomplished" -- nearly every country on Earth hates our guts -- increased recruitment of terrorist and suicide bombers -- billion$ spent to restore buildings and infrastructure in Iraq -- billion$ spent to protect those doing the restoration in Iraq -- torture, sadism, rape and murder of prisoners by the Bush military/civilian occupiers -- Rush Limbaugh is the ONLY talk show carried by Armed Forces Radio, a tax funded service for our troops all over the world. -- Afghanistani mostly abandoned when Bush sent troops to Iraq -- warlords back in charge -- murders common place --massive drug trade --emancipation of women curtailed or blocked --schooling for females curtailed or blocked --increased enrollment in Osama's al-Quida --terrorists alerts following every down-tick in Bush's poll numbers --degradation of human rights across the globe due to Bush's policies How can anyone find these signposts reassuring? Can anyone call this leadership? We are less safe now despite all the spin. Would anyone in their right mind choose to stay the course Bush has laid out in the blood and sacrifice of so many people? Regrettably, a large number of people in this country are delighted to have Bush blow his lies into their ears and will follow him straight to hell, condemning the rest of us to the same fate. 2004-022 Copyright 2004 Renee T.
