There has been a plethora of books published lately, serious tomes purporting
to clarify history in any way the reader wishes to remember it. Now comes
a really funny book by former White House Press Secretary, Ari Fleischer.
Those of us that have followed the news during the occupation of the Bushies will remember the cursing and gnashing of teeth over the spineless, gutless White House Press, their softball questions and their loving treatment of all things Bush. No matter how big an ass he made of himself, no matter how badly his agenda hurt the country and its people, the White House Press showed daily that they were the fourth government institution controlled by the Republicans. First came the Conservative Judicial majority who begat the Executive that begat the Legislative and the “Free” Press. This begetting was not seminal but resulted from the massive amounts of money used to accomplish what simple Democracy could not do. “Follow the money” and there you will find the subversion of a Democracy and the beginning of a Theocracy. Money has bought reporters integrity, it bought election officials and it bought the voting machines. Not too long ago, FOX News stood out as Bush’s butt-boy. It touted all of his initiatives; it corrected his schizoid sentences and gave the impression that he had a modicum of intelligence. Now you can hardly tell the difference as CNN and MSNBC have joined in with FOX to keep us from “real, honest news”. Now all we get is entertainment 24/7 from this lot. Into this terrifying new world, Ari brings his comic book. Remember now, he was the guy that told us day after day that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He also “looked us in the eye” and earnestly repeated all the Bush lies that can be found in Web sites and Blogs all over the Internet. Now he gives the back of his hand to the cadre of reporters who kissed up to him. The very ones he fed the sludge of lies that passed for White House “intelligence”: In his fall-down-laughing book, and apparently still with a straight face, he takes our hand and asks us to stroll down the same deceitful primrose path once again, writing: White House correspondents are mostly Liberal. Mostly negative. Mostly opposed to tax cuts. Mostly unwilling to give Bush a break. Mostly interested in whipping up conflict. ROFLMAO! What a gas! He may have left his White House job behind but he still resides on a far distant planet from the rest of us. A planet where facts are whatever the Bushies want them to be. 2005-011 Copyright 2005 Renee T. Louise and Ruth M.
