LESSONS FROM LILITH

There are certainly differences of opinion regarding Lilith but one thing comes through clearly; the male writers, translators and interpreters of scripture and myth did not like her attitude.

She is briefly mentioned in the Old Testament in a derogatory way but mostly she is ignored. We know of her from rabbinic legend the Midrash, documentation that is thousands of years old. http://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/~elsegal/Shokel/950206_Lilith.html

It tells of Lilith being Adam's first wife and that God raised both male and female out of the dust as equals. That did not set well with Adam because Lilith took her equality seriously causing Adam much discomfort at not being "the boss."

Lilith got sick of the constant bickering and "flew away from her spouse." Of course that meant that she had to be vilified and she certainly was. No place for an uppity woman in those days either.

Translators and copiers depicted her as pure evil, claiming that she married with demons and produced the spawn of the devil to torment men. She would go into a man's bed at night and come on to him, causing him (through no fault of his own, of course) to climax. This act of Lilith was thought to be the genesis of wet dreams.

Back in Paradise, Adam convinced God to make him a subservient woman and Eve was produced from his rib. She was really a good person, giving Adam no grief at all but men's recorded history had to make woman the downfall of man so the apple and the snake became the tools used to discredit the entire gender.

Recently the Midrash legend got backed up with the finding of the Lost Bible Text, which pretty much showed that the ancient transcribers of the Bible systematically and intentionally made sure no woman ever was to be considered equal to man. "It all goes back to creation (Briyah in Hebrew), and a garden called Eden..."

For centuries the equality of women and men has been hidden beneath the desire of men for power. It staggers the imagination to think such contrived lies could persist over the ages until one contemplates the current examples of "lying in plain sight," demonstrated daily by Bush. Below are two examples of his twisted truth that created a false reality.

Who does not know that a majority of Americans think Saddam was responsible for 9/11. A majority of Americans believe that the country is safe under Republican rule and that Democrats are weak and would not protect the country.

How can such lies and revisionist history persist, especially in these days of global communication? Well, we are in the genesis of another whopper right now. Perhaps if we all pay attention we can learn how the Bush lies suspend reality and put a stop to their influence.

Bush and his captured Congress and media did not start and continue to add flames to the Schiavo fire solely to take the heat off Tom Delay. The fire was started to burn the Democrats. It was started to be used as ammunition for the fight over judge nominations and confirmations, and to further their anti-reproductive rights agenda.

Observe as the progression of "bushfacts" turn into emotional bullets to inflame voters -- his culture of life is a culture of lies. Already they have stirred up other groups, especially appealing to the fears of the disabled. Already the Bushites and their media satellites are repeating over and over that the Democrats are pro-death.

They will connect it all with the Florida judges, calling them "Liberals", and urge the confirmation of the ultra Conservative judges who will obey the will of God.

Of course all those judges were NOT Liberals. That's not the point. Changing history starts with changing and/or ignoring facts. Watch, listen and learn how it's done -- just like it was when the first woman, who was created equal, flew out of the nasty situation in Paradise, leaving us only her courage.
