Was
it good for you? Did the so-called compromise on the filibuster bring you
great joy and happiness? Or did it look like smoke and mirrors, meaningless
proof that once again we got smacked back on our asses?
And what in hell are "exceptional circumstances"? Ask 100 people and you get more than100 different answers. Fact is that the only answer that counts is what the Republican give. So if it ain't exceptional to them, they nuke the filibuster rule. So in reality, are we right back where we started? Not so, we are further behind the 8-ball then ever. Bush never blinked while the palaver continued, he had a sure thing. His good cop (McCain), bad cop (Frist) ploy faked out the Democrats for him. Democrats got to keep the right to filibuster, provided they promise not to use it! There will be one or more nomination(s) for Supreme Court Justices coming to the Senate. Will any of these nominations constitute extraordinary circumstances? Suppose the Democratic Senators say yes and filibuster. Then the Republican Senators will put on their smug smiles showing us how they made fools of us again and they will vote to eliminate the filibuster. And then what do the Democratic Senators do? What can they do? Whatever Bushie wants Bushie gets and for him rules exist to be broken. We cannot appeal to the public because the media will not present the facts of the agreement, it will only delight in reporting that once again, Bush outwitted the Democrats. Did you hear Chris Mathews on Hard Ball? He said, "I think the Democrats started this [filibuster] fight. I think they did... You know, I think Democrats should win more elections. That will solve their problem." So much news has been swept under the rug while this filibuster farce has been going down. Troops killed in Iraq, continued cover up of military/CIA approved torture and misuse of the Quran. The smoking gun that is represented by the Downing Street Memo has produced a stink heard round the world -- but not here. There is a world wide desire to impeach Bush because of how his policies have made the world less safe -- but not here. The media is intimidated to misreport or
ignore news that is truthful about the Bush administration. The truth is
out there but it is squelched here at home. Remember the great testimony
