MORAL HIGH DIRT

Shocking! Unconscionable! Untrue accusations! The airways resounded with the rants directed at NARAL's ad concerning John Roberts -- and that was just from the Republicans.

Then Liberals piled on with muted tut - tuts and moralistic head wagging. The upshot was that NARAL pulled the ad, that used his own words, linking John Roberts to abortion terrorists.

What is the matter with these Liberals? Have they no memory? Do they honestly think that they are occupying the moral high ground by joining the Repugnants in their pretentions of morality? Have they never noticed that politics is not bean-bag?

Have they never noticed that dirty ads and dirty tactics are the life blood of Repugnant politics? Do they actually think that winning an election has anything to do with telling the actual truth?

Repugnants are just as unprincipled and vicious with their own. John McCain ran in a Primary against Bush and was slimed. He was accused of fathering an illegitimate mixed-race child among other things.

One would think he would be furious about what Bush ads and insinuations did to him but he knew that it was all part of the election game. Who can forget his embrace of Bush and how loyally he has backed Bush up in so many ways?

Then there were the "Swift boat" ads against Kerry that occupied the media for months. They were proven over and over to be incorrect but never were they retracted no did any Repugnant disavow or apologize for them.

Remember how the Repug ads portrayed Senator Max Cleland to defeat his bid for reelection? They did not hesitate to infer that he was a traitor and disloyal to his country -- this about a veteran who lost three limbs in battle.

Richard Clark and Joe Wilson, whistle blowers who laid themselves on the line so Americans could see how they had been lied to and deceived into a preemptive war with Iraq. They were excoriated for their efforts and Joe's CIA wife was outed.

Scott Ritter, who warned against going into Iraq and insisted there were no WMD suffered many unproven accusations against his character -- the usual weapon the Repugnants use against those who speak out.

And just recently the vituperous comments they are so practiced in are directed with derision and hatred against a mother whose son was killed in Iraq. Cindy Sheehan wants Bush to tell her what the "noble cause" was that he died for.

Her great crime is speaking out and pushing back against a government that has become more and more totalitarian. But now Cindy's message has resonated in many Americans so the nastiness knows no bounds. Predictably some Dems, such as former Senator Breaux are voicing mealy mouthed disapproval in concert with the Repugs.

So does that mean that Liberals should get down in the muddy excrement with the Repugs? Nonsense! Liberals could never compete with them on that level. It just means that those with Liberal causes should stand up for themselves and their decisions and that other Liberals, if they can't join them, should shut their mouths.

If anyone should be apologizing and taking back ads and comments, it is the arrogant Bushites and their sycophantic media whores. Dems should learn that when Repugs scream and yell about an ad or comment they should pour it on thicker -- not withdraw.
