THE POTTERY BARN STINKETH

However you look at it, George Bush royally screwed over the Iraqi people. Given that these are people who have been screwed over most of their existence, Bush surpasses all with his bunker bombs and bunker mentality.

Everyone except the Republicans and their poodle media have been saying that since he invaded Iraq on poofed up intelligence. Now there is a big change in what the media is reporting. The light has broken through slightly, even for even the most pig-headed.

Who could miss the implications of departing UN Chief, Kofi Annan, who put it squarely on point recently, charging the U.S. of running roughshod over the international community?

Like we've been saying for years to no avail, going after Saddam and leaving Osama in the wind was a stupid, criminal and dangerous policy. Colin Powell warned Bush at the time with what has been called the faux Pottery Barn consequence: "If you break it you buy it."

Bush ignored him and all others who pointed out the fallacy of what he was doing. Now it seems he is getting multiple warnings as a newly unleashed Congress spews truth across the land such as in this exchange during the Gates hearing.

SEN. BYRD: With respect to Osama bin Laden, within eight months of taking Baghdad, our troops captured Saddam Hussein. However, five years after 9/11 and the invasion of Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden is still on the loose. Who is responsible, Dr. Gates, in your judgment, for the 9/11 attacks; Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden?

MR. GATES: Osama bin Laden, Senator.

SEN. BYRD: Over the past five years, who has represented the greater threat to the United States; Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden?

    MR. GATES: Osama bin Laden.

Even the most loyal Bushies are backing -- nay, running -- away from Bush. Senator Gordon Smith called his actions in Iraq criminal, on the floor of the Senate.

The recent report on the Iraq situation by a bi-partisan committee has refuted Bush's constant mantra that we are winning in Iraq. We are not winning but we have to change course and do things differently and stay in for years and... the committee reported.

Ah, yes! it's the old Pottery Barn warning writ large and stinking to high heaven. Bush broke Iraq with shock and awe and bunker busters and we must stay in and pay, and pay and pay with the lives of Americans, Iraqi and our hemorrhaging economy.
